This week on the Pike Place Podcast, Jerry and Bob begin telling the story about the citizen advocacy group, “Friends of the Market”. Initially founded in 1964 to save the Market, and it’s community’s “scruffy character”, from certain Urban Renewal demolition, the “Friends” continue to advocate for the Pike Place Market, 50 years later. Seattle lawyers and still active “Friends” Jerry Thonn and Ed Singler recall how they met Victor Steinbrueck and became integral in the political, legal and prolonged fight to “Save Our Market”. This is the first in a continuing series about the men and women who fought and still fight for the Pike Place Market. Let’s Listen!
